বাংলাদেশের অর্থনৈতিক, সামাজিক অবস্থা বিবেচনা করলে দেখা যায় এখনও দেশের শতকরা ৮০% ভাগ মানুষ কৃষি ও গ্রামভিত্তিক বিভিন্ন পেশায় যেমন: কৃষক, শ্রমিক, তাঁতী, মৎষ চাষি, কামার, কুমার, জেলে ও বিভিন্ন ধরনের ক্ষুদ্র ও কুটির শিল্প, হস্ত শিল্প এবং বিভিন্ন ধরনের একমালিকানা ব্যবসায় যেমন: মুদি দোকান, দর্জি দোকান, ঔষধের দোকান, সবজি বিক্রির দোকান, সেলুন, চা বিক্রির দোকান ইত্যাদির উপর নির্ভর করে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করছে।
